Lone Wolf is the newly adopted alias of songwriter Paul Marshall and this new album follows up the cult success of his 2007 album, Vultures (released under his own name).
Marshall is a talented songwriter and it strikes through on this first outing as Lone Wolf. The production is sparse and clear, it takes a back seat to the songs and most pertinently the vocals; restrained and tender, but brooding in mood. Of the more full arrangements the string-enhanced 'Russian Winter' and the horn heavy 'This Is War' prove most powerful, stirring up an atmosphere of emotive intensity that resonates alongside Marshall's measure delivery. The two-part title track beginning as doomy-grey instrumental through to the band version that closes the album on a haunted crescendo.
